About

Our story

Hooke Springs has been ‘up and flowing’ for more than 50 years, in the ownership of thesame family during that time.

Situated on the headwaters of the Dorset Frome, England’s westernmost chalk stream, the chalk springs that feed the farm arise on, or next to, the farm.

We supply clients from Cornwall to Kent, from Buckinghamshire to Pembrokeshire, including  more than 14 different beats of the Test, Itchen and Meon as well as the majority of beats on the Avon, Wylye, Nadder, Frome and Piddle in addition, to mention but a few.

Free delivery is included within our quoted prices. This is occasionally reviewed if the load is uneconomic– something of which we can advise at the time of ordering.  One way of avoiding such charges is for customers to arrange with other nearby fishery owners to order their fish for delivery at the same time.

We’re delighted to welcome customers old and new to the farm – come and see where your fish come from.

Meet the owners

The current partners are Fiona and Mark Firth – Fiona is the daughter of the late founder, perhaps the doyen of trout farming, Major Allen Hill.

Along with the Manager, Rob Waker, and the rest of the team, we live on site.

“Our consistent water quality and quantity supply to this farm is second to none.”

What you can expect

The lowest possible disease risk category.  It’s the only trout farm in Southern England to be free of ERM (Enteric Red Mouth Disease).

Winter water temperatures rarely if ever drop below 7c. This makes them one of the farms least likely to be faced by slow growing fish.

It’s a source of great pride that the fish look wonderful, fight like tigers and taste delicious; we use the finest available pigmented food and, unusually, feed a lot of floating pellets to the browns to encourage them to look upwards for their food source.
